Common Eye Conditions

Hyperopia

Hyperopia, commonly known as farsightedness, occurs when the eye is shorter or the lens is too concave, causing distant objects to be clear but close-up objects to appear blurry. Hyperopia can be corrected with prescription eyeglasses, contact lenses, or LASIK surgery, if you’re eligible.

Astigmatism

Astigmatism is a vision condition caused by an irregularly shaped cornea, resulting in blurred or distorted vision at all distances. Corrective options for astigmatism include glasses, toric contact lenses, and LASIK surgery may also be considered.

Presbyopia

Presbyopia is an age-related condition that makes it challenging to read fine print or perform close-up tasks. Progressive, bifocal, or multifocal glasses or contact lenses are effective solutions for correcting presbyopia.

Myopia

Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, occurs when the eye is elongated or the cornea is too curved, causing distant objects to appear blurry. Eyeglasses and contact lenses are reliable methods for correcting your child’s myopia.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma, a group of eye diseases that damages the optic nerve and can result in progressive vision loss, is one area of expertise. Open-angle glaucoma and angle-closure glaucoma are the two main types. While open-angle glaucoma develops gradually without noticeable symptoms initially, angle-closure glaucoma can cause sudden and severe symptoms like eye pain, blurred vision, and the appearance of halos around lights. Our eye doctor utilizes advanced diagnostics to detect glaucoma in its earliest stages, allowing for prompt intervention and treatment.

Cataracts

Cataracts are a common age-related condition characterized by the clouding of the eye's lens, causing blurry vision and visual disturbances. The good news is that cataract surgery, involving the replacement of the natural lens with an artificial one, is an effective treatment for this condition.

Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration, a progressive eye disease impacting the central part of the retina responsible for sharp vision, is another area of expertise. There are two main forms: dry and wet macular degeneration. While dry AMD progresses slowly, causing gradual central vision loss, wet AMD, though less common, can result in rapid and severe vision loss due to abnormal blood vessel growth in the macula. Treatments range from monitoring to anti-VEGF injections or photodynamic therapy.
